The popular San Sebastian Avenue de Santa Cruz de Tenerife will not change its name, after its neighbors protested for three months against the intention of the City Council to turn it into Avenida Club Deportivo Tenerife.
Given the rejection of the citizens, which was manifested on several occasions in the aforementioned street, the council has backed down and finally will not change the name of the road.
It was last September when the change of name of this central avenue was made official in an act chaired by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez (Canary Islands Coalition), and by the then president of CD Tenerife, Miguel Concepción, and attended by the coach from the blue and white team, Luis Miguel Ramis, and the captains Aitor Sanz and Carlos Ruiz.
The residents demanded that the original name be maintained, with more than 300 years of history, instead of opting for the name of the club, now chaired by the former leader of the Canary Islands Coalition Paulino Rivero.
