SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The vaccination teams of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) have administered a total of 205,716 second booster doses in the Canary Islands since the inoculation of the new vaccines adapted to the Omicron variants began on September 26.
Currently, and after advancing in the vaccination process, this vaccine is already being administered to people 12 years of age or older.
In the last three days, the number of people who come to receive this second reinforcement dose has even doubled, details the Ministry of Health in a note.
Thus, in total, in the last eight days 11,754 people have been vaccinated, of which 9,597 received said second booster dose.
These new vaccines against covid-19, used as a memory dose, enhance and expand the immune response and, consequently, protection against all the clinical manifestations that SARS-CoV-2 disease can cause, insists the Ministry.
Specialists insist that the protection conferred by the vaccine begins to decrease five months after the last dose, so it is necessary to receive a booster.
Since the start of the vaccination campaign, a total of 4,653,083 doses of the coronavirus vaccine since the start of the vaccination campaign.
In the archipelago there are already 1,853,706 people who have received at least one dose, which represents 88.37 percent of the target population.
In addition, until this Wednesday, 1,799,531 people who have already received the full vaccination schedule had been immunized, which represents 85.79 percent of the target population of the archipelago.
OLDER THAN 12 YEARS
The Ministry also recalls that booster doses against covid-19 are indicated for all people over 12 years of age regardless of whether they have passed the infection or not and that people with previous pathologies of any age and those over 60 years of age are the most vulnerable groups and most prone to complications if they suffer from the disease.
Hence, it is necessary to periodically administer the booster doses adapted to the new variants of Omicron and its subvariants.
Therefore, he points out that “it is important” to start primary vaccination if it has not yet been done and to complete the vaccination regimen even if the disease has passed.
The booster dose can be administered after at least five months have elapsed since the last dose received against covid-19.
In the case of having presented a recent coronavirus infection, they must wait at least three months after the infection to receive this booster dose.
