Nueva Canarias (NC) has shown this Wednesday its satisfaction with the arrival of the 5 million euros consigned to facilitate the decongestion of the Los Cristianos pier, in Tenerife, and which are already available to the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and House of the Government of the Canary Islands after being transferred by the State. These works will contribute to improving the mobility of users, as well as residents and businesses in the area.
The origin of this money has been related to the amendment to the General State Budgets made, at the time, by deputy Pedro Quevedo in Madrid, an aspect that will contribute, decisively, “to the improvement of land access to the Los Christians with the burying, among other actions, of Chayofita avenue to the area of the El Mojón partial plan”, according to the General Director of Institutional Relations of the Vice Presidency, Carmen Nieves Gaspar.
For Gaspar, the implementation of this project supposes “the evident confirmation that the port of Fonsalía is absolutely unnecessary. It is not possible to continue destroying the island and depredating its territory with projects that have no justification, nor are they going to bring any benefit to society. The solution to the saturation of the port of Los Cristianos is this and not the construction of another macro-port that would mean repeating a historical mistake such as that of the industrial port of Granadilla”.
“The commitment of Nueva Canarias – continued Gaspar – goes through a sustainable development model for Tenerife and for the rest of the islands. For this reason, projects like the one in Fonsalía have no place for our party, which is in tune with the improvement of the infrastructures in Los Cristianos for a pier that should give a better response to the two million people who pass through its facilities every year”.
The Nueva Canarias candidate for Arona City Council, Nauzet Fariña, also expressed himself in similar terms and considers that “once the work is completed, for which Nueva Canarias has already obtained the relevant state funding, mobility within from the Los Cristianos area”, he concluded.
