The sale of used vehicles in the Canary Islands decreases by 4.7 percent

The used car market fell by 4.7 percent in Canary Islands in 2022 by selling a total of 85,166 vehiclesa decrease that in the case of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife represented a collapse of 7 percent, as reported on Monday by the association of the sector Ancove.

Specific the palmswith 45,008 passenger cars and a fall of 2.4%, is the province with the best records in the whole of last year, while in Santa Cruz of Tenerife sales fell 7.16% with 40,158 passenger cars transferred, details the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove) it’s a statement.

And with regard to December 2022, 8,242 second-hand vehicles were sold in the Canary Islands, which represents a drop of 7.93% compared to the same month of the previous year, while in the national set the drop was 9.5 %.

Ancove specifies that the used passenger car market throughout the country fell by 5.6% last year with sales of 1,885,558 cars.

The decline has been sharpening month by month until December closed with a collapse of 9.5% -191,077 sales- compared to the same month of 2021 and the year closed with 2.3 second-hand cars sold for each new one.

By channel, dealers are the worst unemployed despite the fact that in recent months they have been registering improvements due to “the pull” of the 12- to 24-month-old units and sales for the year as a whole have fallen by 13.8% compared to 2021.

The best behavior was registered by the sales whose sales fell by 2.9%, below the average.

Sales between individuals fell by 3.7%, although it is the first by volume due to the weight in the market for older cars, where transfers between individuals are more frequent.

Regarding engines, diesel, despite continuing to fall, has accounted for 57.4% of sales for the year; gasoline 36.9% and gasoline hybrids 9.8%.

Electric vehicles account for 0.6% of the second-hand passenger car market.

By autonomous community in the year, sales only grew in the Balearic Islands and the Community of Madrid and in the month of December, in addition to the Community of Madrid, they increased in Catalonia and Aragon.

“The year, as we have been warning, has ended negatively with sales lower than those of 2021 and from Ancove we continue to demand measures against pseudo-dealers who are dedicated to selling cars posing as individuals. Concentrated in older units, they do not offer the guarantees to buyers that merchants are obliged to, with the risk for road safety and the pocket of customers,” says Eric Iglesias, president of the association.
