The Garachico Town Hall and the Highways area of the Island Council of Tenerife work together to improve safety at the most dangerous junctions and accesses on the main highway (TF-42), which links the town with the rest of the low island by the coast As a result of two traffic accidents that occurred on December 29, 2022 and January 3, 2023, the mayor of Villa y Puerto, Jose Heriberto Gonzalez (CC)points out that there has already been an agreement with Carreteras on a project to make exits and incorporations safer to the parking lot of the old town, in the old football field, and measures to try to avoid new accidents in the old exit of the La Caleta neighborhood of Interiánshared with The Silos.

In the case of the Garachiquense town, what is proposed is the creation of a waiting lane to be able to access the car park in a safer way and without interrupting traffic. For La Caleta, the proposal is provisionally put that access “only to enter the neighborhood, eliminating the option to leave”, according to the mayor. This idea is still being studied by technicians, who have already warned that it will be necessary to acquire some land to put an end to this black dot.

The Garachiquense mayor also proposes other interventions on the roads of Las Cruces, Genovés, La Culata or La Montañeta

«The poor condition of our roads and the danger of certain sections is evident. I can only mention those that are in the municipal area of garachico because it is not my place to get involved in others, but it is clear that we must intervene in the maritime avenue of the historic center and in the steps through Las Cruces, San Pedro, Genovés, La Culata, La Montañeta and La Caleta de Interiánwhich has three exits with little visibility”, details the nationalist president.

In all these cases it is additions to island roads that cross population centers. “Some are more dangerous than others, but they must be re-analyzed and new solutions proposed,” says the mayor, who assures that it is a matter that he has addressed “many times with those responsible for the competent administrations.”

Jose Heriberto Gonzalez warns that “it is a question in which all the parties must go hand in hand and also the administrations involved (Cabildo and city councils). Why it is necessary to intervene as soon as possible in order to avoid misfortunes».
