The General Directorate for Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands has published a didactic guide for professionals who work with adolescents in order to offer practical tools aimed at promoting non-violent masculinities, as reported by the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth , Youth.
It is a reissue adapted to the Canarian reality of the first guide published in 2019 and prepared by Coral Herrera, PhD in Humanities and Audiovisual Communication, writer and teacher. In this new edition with methodological adaptation, the two equality agents Irene Negrín León and Diana Pérez Saavedra have collaborated.
The guide offers up to ten cards to address different topics such as romantic love, patriarchy, feminism, relationships or emotional intelligence. It also includes an evaluative and follow-up sheet for each session whose objective is to know the aspects to highlight or the difficulties of execution, which will allow the sheets to be improved in future editions.
As argued in the guide, the activities are based on placing the philosophy of care at the center to help build relationships based on good treatment and mutual respect, influence conflict resolution, make visible that violence is not just physical activity, working on self-esteem, getting rid of fears and working on diversity to live their sexuality and feelings in freedom, among others.
Each card is made up of two readings and two dynamics that can be done in two sessions of approximately one and a half hours each. In each tool, a series of indications are established that determine the order of work as well as the recommended target youth population and its work format, in a large or small group and with the option of dividing the group by sex and gender, working on the same material. . Make mixed groups, or only with boys.
