SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The University of La Laguna (ULL) has decided to postpone its solemn opening ceremony for the 2021-2022 academic year, scheduled for next Friday, in solidarity with the situation experienced on the island of La Palma due to the volcanic eruption and until the emergency is more controlled.
The teaching and research center is especially sensitive to this situation since many people in the university community are from La Palma and, in addition, it maintains a headquarters on the island where Nursing studies are taught, with the support of the island council.
Additionally, the presence of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands at the event, who by protocol must be the one who opens the course on behalf of His Majesty the King, was not assured given his role in command of the executive during this emergency.
Classes for the first semester in undergraduate studies will begin, as planned, next Monday, September 27, so this measure only affects the formal ceremony scheduled for this week. Said day is a holiday in the calendar of the University of La Laguna and, since the institution’s staff had already planned it, the Rectorate has decided to maintain the non-labor nature of Friday, September 24, although the formal opening of the course is not famous. Of course, when the act is resumed at a future date, the corresponding day will be lectures.
The University of La Laguna is going to contact the public and private entities with which it has relationships to articulate aid measures aimed at alleviating the effects of the catastrophe on La Palma and, especially, to help the island’s students. may have been affected by this terrible event.
