The bars of the musical that this Christmas ends up in Canary Islands began last night with the first of their performances in the Adán Martín de Tenerife. The bodyguard, made by Luna Manzanares and Octavi Pujadeswill be on the island of Tenerife until this Sunday, January 8, and then he will jump to the Teatro Pérez Galdós, in the capital of Gran Canaria, from January 12 to 22.

Coming from a triumphant stay in the West End of London and the impressive reception of the tour in Spain, the production will offer a total of seven performances in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 14 in the palms from Gran Canaria. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most acclaimed gifts this Christmas in the Islands, as shown by both ticket sales and the number of people who take pictures with the posters of the show on both Islands.

Alejandro Martínez and Jorge Hernández will alternate to interpret the son of the star, Fletcher

Yesterday, the media attended the general rehearsals before the premiere at the Adán Martín Auditorium that took place in the morning on the stage of the Sala Sinfónica. Both the director and the producer assured that it is a function with a lot of technical complexity. “There are shots, lasers and explosions,” they said. A technical spectacular that, however, does not detract from the immortal songs that Whitney Houston performed in the well-remembered 1992 film.

Likewise, Octavi Pujades will get into the shoes of Frank Farmer, a former secret agent turned bodyguard who is hired by the artist Rachel Marron, played by Luna Manzanares, after receiving worrying threats in her dressing room.

‘The Bodyguard’ arrives in the Canary Islands

“We have had quite a long tour, which, however, was interrupted by the pandemic. We have finally arrived in Tenerife, which is a place that we love and has always treated us very well,” they explained from the producer. The impressive special effects and elaborate choreography join the more than 60 costume changes that take place during the two hours and five minutes that the musical lasts. Of them, between 20 and 21 are made by the protagonist, which gives an idea of the visual power of The Bodyguard.

Despite the fact that ticket sales are advancing at a good pace, there are still passes available to enjoy the musical on both islands, after a long hiatus of great musicals in the Canary Islands due to the coronavirus pandemic. coronavirus.

As in each of their appointments, those responsible for the musical carry out a casting prior to choosing the children who will give life to the ten-year-old son of the protagonist: Fletcher. In the case of Tenerife, those selected to play this role have been Alejandro Martínez and Jorge Hernández, who will alternate in the different functions playing the offspring of the star. It is still pending to discover which interpreters are selected for the performances in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The young Canaries attended the general rehearsal yesterday to, incidentally, take some pictures with the protagonists and part of the team. As explained by the producer, the children prepare their roles in advance with some audiovisual materials and remote advice. Then, after just a couple of rehearsals, they start to debut in their roles.

Both Alejandro and Jorge were a little nervous but dared to attend to the television cameras. “Please, please, we invite you to come to the Auditorium to see The Bodyguard,” they assured.
