Suavemente, Llorarás, Vivir lo nuestro, Marejada… Any self-respecting carnival fan has danced and sung out loud some of these songs, and many others that are the soundtrack of a Carnival like the one in Santa Cruzin which Latin music is the mother of all rhythms.

The Autonomous Agency for Festivals and Recreational Activities (oafar) of Santa Cruz, headed by councilor Alfonso Cabello, has wanted these songs and their best-known performers to star in the music in the street of the Carnival of the reunion, in which normality will be the great novelty. This means that artists such as Óscar de León, La India, Edwin Rivera, Tony Tun Tun, Many Manuel, Lucrecia, Laritza Bacallao, Jhony Maquinaria, Morocho, Anaé or Las K-narias can be enjoyed live.

“The approach carried out this year by the Autonomous Organization of Parties and Recreational Activities with respect to music in Carnival is what we are going to call the songs of a life in Carnival”, explains Cabello. “If we had to think of the 25 or 30 songs that have marked the party in the last 20 years -he continues-, surely we all think of some like La ventanita, Marejada, Suavemente… The idea has been to bring together all the performers that have promoted those songs that are still alive and that in one way or another are linked to the Chicharrero Carnival”.

The mayor of Fiestas details that these performances will take place, most of them, on the Saturday of Carnival Day (February 25). “There, many will do a song, together with other artists, and the idea is that another day they will do a complete performance.”

But it is not only about hiring foreign artists, but also, Cabello advances, “we are working so that this is the year in which the greatest number of orchestras and artists from the Canary Islands participate in the Carnival, we are talking about more of 80”. Thus, it will be possible to dance with orchestras such as La Maquinaria, Sabrosa, Wamampy, Revelación, Tropin, Olimpia, Las K-narias, Pepe Benavente or Troveros de Asieta, among others.

“We do not rule out being able to incorporate a name to this squad, but we understand that after the pandemic, it was the year to hold this great meeting and represent the carnivals of all times,” adds the Councilor for Fiestas.

As for the artist invited to the Carnival Queen Election Gala (February 15), Cabello points out that nothing is closed yet. “I have four options on the table, but we are still negotiating,” he concludes.

In 15 days, Carnival 2023, the one of normality, starts

The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2023 will arrive on January 20 with the presentation of the candidates for Queen in the different categories. The contests will begin almost immediately, with the children’s murgas, opening fire on January 26. Likewise, that weekend will close with a choreographic festival that will take place on Sunday 29. January closes with the first phase of the contest, on Monday 30, with the final on Friday, February 3.

The Gala for the Election of the Children’s Queen will take place on Sunday, February 5, that of the Elderly will be on the 8th and that of the Adult Queen, on the 15th. For its part, on Friday, February 17, Carnival takes to the streets with the Announcing parade, giving way to the first weekend of street partying, including the first Day Carnival, on Sunday 19.

The Piñata weekend will take place on February 25 and 26, with the second Day Carnival, and the end of the festivities, for a Carnival that is expected to be massive.
