A project of 18.1 million euros will allow the improvement of eight historic quarters of the Island. This was announced yesterday by the Council of Tenerife, which indicated that it will collaborate with town councils of less than 50,000 inhabitants in different actions to improve accessibility to historical complexes, promote parking projects to decongest road traffic and promote their conservation, among other interventions. This is included in the Insular Program for the Improvement of Accessibility to Historic Sites (PIMACH), approved by the Governing Council, which will be valid from 2022 to 2026.
The insular president, Pedro Martín, points out through a press release that “in total for these four years of the program we anticipate an investment of 18.1 million euros, of which the Cabildo will finance 10.9, for a program that will be of great help to the municipalities that have presented their projects to us, a total of eight, to improve access and protection of their centers historical».

For the 2024-2026 period, an annual investment of 4.8 million is planned, the president indicated.

The Minister of Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, explained that “this island program has, among its main objectives, to protect the historical ensembles from the deterioration they experience as a result of motor vehicle transit through them.” “Through this program we will contribute to municipalities in the financing of parking projects, underground, surface, or both actions combined, to reduce road traffic and promote foot traffic for the population, among other interventions,” he added.

Chinea highlighted in the press release that the joint work carried out through the Municipal Cooperation area with the insular direction of Territorial Planning and Heritage of the Cabildo to collect the proposals for improvement of the municipalities in which to be able to collaborate from the insular corporation.
