SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife and Manos Unidas have signed a collaboration agreement to deliver during this 2022-2023 academic year the Act against Waste campaign, which aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of responsible food consumption, avoiding waste and raise awareness in the fight against hunger.

The CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, indicated that through this action “youth are invited to reflect on lifestyle, the consequences of wasting food and wasting resources, while trying to raise awareness about hunger and poverty in the world.

The campaign has been created and developed by Manos Unidas and will include the delivery of different workshops, as well as the dissemination of information and training. A total of 28 academic centers have requested to join this action, which will have an impact on 2,824 students of different educational levels.

The activity will be brought to the classroom through the Cuento contigo volunteer promotion campaign, from the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program, dependent on Sinpromi, “which we have in place in schools on the island to promote values of solidarity, equality, respect for diversity, inclusion and participation among students and teachers, as well as to promote volunteering and collaboration in the different actions and programs of the entities”, explained Gugliotta.

The CEO highlighted the importance of this campaign, which transversally integrates several of the Sustainable Development Goals, related to responsible production and consumption (SDG number 12) and 0 Hunger (SDG number 2). In addition to other complementary objectives, such as Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Life Underwater (SDG 14), Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems (SDG 15) and, mainly, Partnerships to achieve the goals (SDG 17), which is the foundation principal of the recently signed agreement, indicated the CEO.
