The first boats of the year arrive with more than a hundred migrants

The migration route to the Canary Islands continues without rest. More than a hundred Africans made landfall yesterday, coinciding with the first day of the year, aboard an inflatable boat and a small boat that arrived at the Arrecife dock in Lanzarote, while a cayuco was escorted by a jet ski to Granadilla, in Tenerife and another arrived at El Hierro. Three occupants had to be transferred to medical centers, presenting different health problems.

The Red Cross reports that shortly after six in the morning they activated a deployment of media to assist a group of migrants who were sailing along the coast of Lanzarote. In this boat, which was rescued by Maritime Rescue, 45 people were traveling, two of whom required evacuation to a health center, after being treated at the foot of the port.

Maritime Rescue talks about the fact that in a double joint operation that began at night and ended during the day, the Guardamar Calliope intervened in this first rescue operation, which moored in Arrecife

In the second, the Salvamar Al Nair ship came to help, under the coordination of the Las Palmas control center, in which the Helimer 205 helicopter and the Sasemar 103 plane also participated in both cases.

In both rescues they are North Africans, according to Maritime Rescue, which details that one of the expeditions sailed in a rubber boat and in another its occupants traveled in a boat

In turn, the Red Cross reports that it treated 30 people who were located on the coast of the municipality of Arrecife in Lanzarote, although Salvamento raises this figure to 33, who were disembarked at the La Cebolla pier, where they were given a set of hygiene products, clothing, footwear, blankets and food, which try to alleviate the hours spent at sea during the journey from the African continent to the Archipelago.

On the other hand, a cayuco in which eight migrants were sailing also reached the coast of Granadilla, in the south of Tenerife. The boat was sighted near the beach of La Tejita and was accompanied by the pilot of a jet ski who was in the area to the Los Abrigos dock, where they were attended by personnel from the Red Cross and the Canary Islands Emergency Service ( SUC).

One of the migrants had to be transferred to a health center, when a leg injury was detected that required further medical attention, according to the Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoes) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Salvamento located another canoe with eight migrants in El Hierro in the afternoon, for which they were taken to the La Restinga pier. All presented a good general condition, according to Cecoes.

13 dead at the exit gate

At least 13 bodies of migrants were found after their boat capsized in Sidi Ifni, southern Morocco, while another 24 were rescued, Moroccan media reported. According to

, another five people who were in this boat escaped after the shipwreck, among whom it is suspected that the organizers of the trip were. The members of the Royal Gendarmerie and the local authorities opened an investigation and questioned 45 emigrants, who were traveling in this boat, coming from Guelmim, Kenitra, Casablanca and Tangier. The boat left Mirleft at 2:30 a.m. Friday, but capsized ten minutes after hitting rocks. The occupants of the ship, who paid up to 25,000 dirhams (2,200 euros) each, had the goal of reaching the Canary Islands. | efe
