La Laguna delivers 407 emergency aid for a total of 440,000 euros

The Social Welfare Area of ​​the La Laguna City Council, in collaboration with the Cabildo Social Action Area, began yesterday the delivery of new prepaid cards to cover the basic and food needs of 407 families in the municipality, emergency aid which will mean a total economic endowment of 439,926.32 euros. These social visas work through an electronic wallet system that does not require a bank account for the beneficiaries, a system that prevents them from traveling to their Social Work Unit (UTS), which guarantees the purposes of the aid and favors consumption It is done in the local business.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Rubens Ascanio, highlights the local commitment to a rechargeable electronic system that “improves care for families in the municipality, reduces the administrative burden and has an impact on greater speed and technical efficiency in the Area”, although it supposes “a technical challenge that we are trying to address to turn this model into a viable recharging alternative, without the need to move to the UTS”. These prepaid social visas, which can be used as a wallet card for various purchases, are designed so that families can purchase the products they need until the available amount is exhausted.

They can be used without the need to have a bank account or be a customer of a specific entity and have the characteristic services of cards, such as checking the balance and movements, as well as protection against fraudulent operations carried out by third parties. They are aimed at covering food expenses, personal hygiene, self-protection material, clothing and footwear, pharmacy, household hygiene products, household utensils and basic and essential furniture for the home, as well as any other expense that must be met by the recipient. end, all with the aim of avoiding situations of social urgency, risk or social exclusion.

“This extensive social investment is also a relief for families with the greatest needs, due to the increase in some day-to-day elements, being an aid that goes directly to the local economy,” he explains.
