Given the “serious danger situation” for pedestrians and traffic on the section of Los Majuelos avenue, near El Sobradillo, where on December 22 a rain collector caught fire, the Infrastructure area, directed by Dámaso Arteaga, has awarded the repair of this point by emergency route for 250,000 euros. In this way, the company Cívica Ingenieros has been hired as the person in charge of the Facultative Management and Health and Safety Coordination, for 28,000 euros, while Construcciones Elfidio Pérez will be in charge of the execution of the work, which consists of replacing the section collector affected by the fire.

According to the report prepared by the technicians, there is a first section that seems seriously damaged; in fact, in the final stretch the polyethylene pipe has disappeared due to the action of the fire. The section between the mouth and the first manhole crosses the lanes of the avenue obliquely, “so that the lane open to traffic and the parking strip can collapse due to the passage of vehicles,” it is noted.

This situation forces the cut of the road, which will be maintained while the work lasts. In addition, in the event of heavy rains, sinkholes could also occur, as the conduction is not waterproof. A situation that could be verified last Monday, after the action of Civil Protection in the tube, which they tried to clean due to the forecast of rain, and noting that the filler rubble had fallen into the tube.

For all of the above, it is proposed to act as an emergency to replace the affected pipeline, which is estimated to be about 90 linear meters long, starting from the mouth.

The commission to Civica Ingenieros is justified “by their experience and knowledge of the works to be carried out, since they were the editor and director of the works carried out in 2014”, while the choice of the company Elfidio Pérez Construcción is made “since it is a local company with its own adequate means and specialized in this type of civil works, with extensive experience for its execution in an immediate and efficient manner”.

As Dámaso Arteaga points out, “we have to be diligent, since, in the event of heavy rain, significant problems can be generated in the area, which is why we declare an emergency.”

Emergency

“We have already decreed today (yesterday) the emergency to restore that conduction, so that, as soon as possible, the work will begin,” added Arteaga. A speed that will depend, “among other things, on whether there is this type of driving in the market. If the one that is there conforms to the technical characteristics, it will start immediately, and if it is necessary to order them outside, it will take a little longer, we are working on those details”, concludes Arteaga.

As for the origin of the fire, everything indicates that it was intentional. Apparently some mattresses caught fire in the ravine into which the collector flows, right at the mouth of the drain, and caught fire inside.
