The Cabildo de Tenerife renews the viewpoint of the realejera beach of Los Roques

The Council of Tenerife The remodeling of the viewpoint of the beach of Los Roques and El Burgadoin the municipal term of The Realejos“a very visited environment and that needed an intervention due to its high degree of deterioration”, as they emphasize from the insular area of Natural Environment Management. This work has required an investment of just over 23,000 euros, from Medi-Fdcan funds for the creation of an infrastructure network for public use and improvement of coastal natural spaces. The access path to this beach of the Rambla de Castro Protected Landscape It is still closed due to the risk of landslides and, at least for the moment, there is no forecast of reopening given the strong erosion and instability of the terrain.

The Councilor for Natural Environment Management and Security of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Isabel Garcia (PSOE)points out that «the main objective that we set ourselves when starting this work was to reform the pavement, which was quite deteriorated, replant the surrounding vegetation and make it easier to see the landscape, the beach, the rocks, and the cove of El Burgado». In addition, he explains that “the parapet of the previous stone wall has been replaced by a wooden railing and it has been reinforced the closure of the ancient trail to avoid transit through the dangerous area with imminent risk of collapse.

The information panel installed in the renovated viewpoint The day

«This trail has undergone a variation in its route due to the poor condition of the platform that houses it and possible landslide problems, so It is no longer possible or safe to allow the passage that once bordered the beach of Los Roques and El Burgado. At present, right where we have fixed this viewpoint, the new path enabled is indicated, “says the counselor.

In the remodeling of the viewpoint, two main actions were proposed: repair damaged pavementby making a concrete floor in which the existing pebbles on the pavement were reused, and intervene to “open up and further facilitate the views to the beach”. To achieve this, an existing parapet about 70 centimeters wide was demolished and a new treated wood railing was installed, “with a design that reinterprets the railing of the path in a simplified way, in keeping with the natural environment and with the constructions of the zone”. A bench was also created that serves as an observation platform and planter.

The information panel installed in the area explains the natural process of strong marine erosion at this point of the coastline; the origin of the formation of the La Orotava Valleywhich is a large gravitational landslide exposed by marine erosion, and some of the fauna species that inhabit this point of the northern coastline, right on the border between Los Realejos and Puerto de la Cruz.

The access path to Los Roques beach remains closed The day
