The problem of mobility in Tenerife, where there are more and more vehicles, is not limited to traffic jams on the Autopista del Norte (TF-5) but rather affects the municipalities, in some of which the number of cars has increased considerably in the last decade.
Los Realejos is one of those points in which the increase in population and therefore vehicles faces daily saturation of its roads, since the current planning does not correspond to the needs of the municipality. Thus, the accesses to the city, through La Montaña, La Higuerita, Los Barros and the San Vicente area, are insufficient.
For this reason, the mayor, Adolfo González, held a meeting a few weeks ago with officials from the Cabildo de Tenerife to study recovery alternatives to Camino El Patronato and address the problem of connectivity in the municipality as a whole. On this occasion, the City Council took the opportunity to raise the need to create a fast road between the La Higuerita area and the La Gañanía industrial estate, which will mean direct communication between the TF-5 and much faster access to the center of Realejo Alto .
“There is a clear commitment on the part of the Cabildo to start preparing a preliminary study at the beginning of the year that will serve as a start so that in the coming years this investment can materialize, which is quite expensive, requires important projects, and some analyzes exhaustive due to the characteristics of the terrain and the very nature of the layout that is being proposed”, maintains the mayor.
“For the first time, people are beginning to talk about this road, which is not only important for communicating the Industrial Estate, but also a fast track for the middle part of the municipality. And of course we will be vigilant until work begins on this action”, warns González.
“In the General Planning Plan (PGO) there is a proposal for a new municipal road, but the Land Law contemplates a series of mechanisms that could be much more agile and effective to start designing it,” says González.
Regarding Camino El Patronato “a working group has been established in which technicians from both administrations review the proposals put forward by the City Council to see if any consensual agreement can be reached between both parties so that in the medium and short term can recover this access”, concludes the mayor.
