The three hotels of the Mare Nostrum Resort complex, located on the so-called golden mile of Playa de Las Américas (Arona), will face a comprehensive reform in 2023, in which 90 million euros will be used, as DIARIO DE AVISOS has learned and Municipal sources have confirmed.

The works will force the temporary, gradual closure of the Mediterranean Palace, Cleopatra Palace and Sir Anthony hotels, establishments acquired by the Canadian management company Brookfield Asset Management in the summer of 2021 after closing an agreement with the Selenta group.

The first two hotels where work will begin will be the Mediterranean Palace, where the most ambitious -and expensive- work will be carried out, and the Sir Anthony, in both cases just after the Three Kings festivity. The forecasts place the reopening of the first establishment after the summer, coinciding with the start of the high season, while the second will begin to receive clients, in principle, in the month of June. In the case of the Cleopatra Palace, the refurbishment work has been planned from September in order to allow time for the refurbishment of the other two hotels to be completed.

The hotel renovation of the three complexes located in a privileged area of the main tourist area of Aron, next to El Camisón beach, will be undertaken 16 months after the Canadian investment manager Brookfield Asset Management, which mediates for funds, closed for 440 million euros the operation to acquire six hotels of the Selenta chain, to which the pandemic took its toll: Sofía Barcelona and Expo Barcelona, in the Catalan capital, Don Carlos Resort & Spa, in Marbella, and the aforementioned three complexes of the Mare Nostrum Resort, in the south of Tenerife.

The Councilor for Tourism Promotion of Arona, José Alberto Delgado, told this newspaper that it is “very positive news, since it is an important investment that will contribute to renovating the hotel facility in the municipality, which will boost the competitiveness of Arona as a destination tourism and will generate greater economic activity”.

In addition to the three hotels, which have more than 1,000 rooms, Mare Nostrum has the Pirámide de Arona space for shows in the southern municipality and the Hard Rock Café restaurant with musical performances.
