Special public transport services in Tenerife this Christmas

Titsa and Metrotenerife, companies of the Cabildo, modify their schedules during the next weekend of Christmas Eve and Christmas. In the case of the buses, on Saturday 24 the services will end between 6:10 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. depending on the line, while the trams will run until 8:30 p.m. The insular Minister of Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, encourages “the use of public transport as a safe and efficient means of travel on dates like these, since they avoid the inconvenience of queuing or looking for parking, among other advantages.”

The tramway

Metrotenerife plans for Christmas Eve, Saturday 24, that Line 1 will maintain a frequency of 10 minutes and Line 2 of 15 until the end of both services at 8:30 p.m. Then the last trams will leave the Intercambiador and La Trinidad stops, on Line 1, and La Cuesta and Tíncer, on Line 2. On Sunday 25, Christmas, the tram will resume its activity at 8:00 a.m. with the frequency of holidays, 12 minutes for Line 1 and 15 for Line 2. These intervals will be applied again on Monday, the 26th, as it is also a holiday.

More tram frequencies in January

Metrotenerife will maintain the reinforcement of frequencies after Christmas. The company will adapt its 2023 Service Plan in view of the foreseeable increase in demand due to the application of free passes for public transport. The tram will reinforce the service from January 16 during the morning and noon rush hours of each working day. The island councilor and president of Metrotenerife, Enrique Arriaga, explains that “21 trams will be put into circulation simultaneously in the Metropolitan Area.” Line 1 will have frequencies of less than five minutes in the slots between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. During those same periods, Line 2 will run every nine minutes. Metrotenerife reminds that the 100% discount on public transport will only be applied to customers who use it frequently and are holders of the Canarian Resident voucher or the monthly Youth, Senior and Persons with Disabilities voucher. It is mandatory to make at least 15 trips in the previous 30 days, the condition to be considered frequent users. | JDM
