If this Wednesday you have walked through the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife it is impossible that you have not seen the imposing ship, owned by the family of the Russian oligarch Oleg Burlakov, which remains docked there. The Black Pearl (Black Pearl, in honor of the Pirates of the Caribbean) is, according to many, the most spectacular sailing ship in the world and has a value of 200 million euros.

The boat has been sailing the seas since the end of 2018 and one of its favorite destinations has been the Balearic Islands, which it already visited last year. However, now there is an opportunity to see it up close in the port of santa cruz.

Characteristics of the ship that belonged to the Russian oligarch Oleg Burlakov

A yacht belonging to the family of the Russian oligarch Oleg Burlakov docks in Santa Cruz: it is worth 200 million euros

Black Pearl is a sailboat that was built in 2016 and is 106.7 meters long. She has three DynaRig masts supporting a 2,900 square meter sail area. The yacht was known during the construction process of her originally as Oceanco Y712 and later as “Solar Project”.

The boat’s hull is made of steel, the superstructure of aluminum and the masts of carbon fiber. The yacht is owned by the family of Russian billionaire Oleg Burlakov, who died on June 21, 2021.

The Black Pearl is capable of crossing the Atlantic on just 20 liters of fuel, with the help of clean energy. One of the key technologies to support this is using the speed of the ship through the water under sail to generate electricity with a variable pitch propeller. The yacht also features large-scale battery storage and heat capture technologies to capture power generated but not immediately used.

Oleg Burlakov, who owned the yacht, gained his fame precisely because of his participation in the design of the vessel. Oleg Burlakov created an oil and gas company together with another partner in 2005. In 2014 he decided to sell it and received around 600 million dollars for his part. It is estimated that 30% of that money was allocated to the Black Pearl, which has all the comforts. Currently, the fortune of Oleg Burlakov’s family is divided between cement, banking and natural gas.

According to boating publication Boat International, the interiors are the ship’s best-kept secret, although designer Ken Freivokh revealed a detail that fits with the former owner’s fondness for antiques, as he requested that a piano that belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte be fitted. in the distribution of rooms.

The layout also includes a main salon and a huge private study, as well as the former owner’s stateroom. There are just four more double staterooms for guests and family, plus a large gymnasium, a wine cellar with space for 4,000 bottles and an attached tasting room, a beach club, an upper deck cinema, and a hangar housing dinghy and a limousine. The saving is only important on board if it is energy.

The Black Pearl was built at the Oceanco shipyard in Rotterdam. She has three 70-meter-tall self-rotating masts (roughly the equivalent of a 15-story building), each with six spars. The sails are stored in the masts, so they can be deployed in record time. Whoever it is, it’s a sight to see it sailing with its black sails unfurled and its masts reflecting the sunlight.
