A massive march opens tomorrow’s Solidarity Telemarathon

The Solidarity Telethon that will be held tomorrow in Santa Cruz de Tenerife recovers the great massive march and other usual performances before the pandemic. From 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., thousands of people, companies, social organizations, security forces, the military, firefighters, Civil Protection teams and individuals will bring the generosity of the Canaries to Mercatenerife, which will open its doors so that the citizens who wish to do so, come to leave their contribution.

The largest solidarity initiative of Canary Islands, organized by Mírame Televisión, Banco de Alimentos and TVE, celebrates its twelfth edition with the challenge of obtaining help for more than 40,000 people in a situation of severe poverty on the Islands, who are served by 228 NGOs. For this edition, the organization has enabled a hundred collection points thanks to the collaboration of companies and entities, where citizens can contribute with the basic products that we request this year: non-perishable food, basic necessities for babies and children, new toys, cleaning products, clothing, footwear and help for animal protection organizations.

The Solidarity Telemarathon, which will be broadcast live by Mírame Televisión and TVE on La 1 and La 2 for the Canary Islands, and by RTVE.es for Spain and the world, is characterized by being a party led by the generosity of the Canaries, a parade of empathy with the most vulnerable, which will also be accompanied by performances on stage by Iván Troyanos, Pepe BenaventeDanyssel, Pedro Acevedo, Vógale, Miriam Reyes and Ángel Campos, Iván Cacú, Ballet YFDS Fam and Yufunk dance School, Neo Pinto, Sonia Gil, Wycho Blue & Grupo Epsylon and the Batucada Bloko del Valle.

More than 200 vehicles

The arrival of the donations, in which more than 200 vehicles participate and in which the shipping companies of the Islands also contribute, will begin with a huge caravan with the participation of the Army, National Police, Local Police, Civil Protection and Firefighters, while donations from companies and individuals are arriving. The children will open the #compartirCanarias march with nurseries and schools spreading their joy. Next, delegations will arrive from various municipalities of the Archipelago with the donations they have collected. Next, it will be the world of sport that parade, with the presence mainly of representatives of the canarian wrestling and the basketball.

Also the Carnival turns in this edition with tomorrow’s Telemarathon. In fact, more than forty musical groups, murgas, troupes, roundabouts and other groups will participate in the march, in addition to the Carnival characters. All together they will perform a murga song composed especially for this occasion. More than 250 large and small companies, public entities and the general population dedicated to those most in need.

Father Angel’s call

Twelve years ago –it is today– since Father Ángel (Mieres, Asturias 1937), founder and president of the NGO Mensajeros de la Paz, and Manuel Artiles, director of Mírame Televisión, came together to make two food macro-collections a reality, one in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid and the other in Lago de la Spain Square, both settled with enormous success. Since then, Father Ángel has always supported the initiative of the Canary chain and now once again calls for participation. The Solidarity Telethon will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, from 12:00 to 20:00 on the Explanada de Mercatenerife, in Santa Cruz. Thousands of people and hundreds of vehicles will bring the generosity of the Canaries to the venue, which opens its doors so that citizens who so wish can come and leave their contribution. At 85 years old, Ángel García Rodríguez (Mieres, Asturias 1937), Father Ángel, priest and Prince of Asturias Award for Concord in 1994, maintains intact his eternal “desire to help”. As usual every December, Father Ángel requests collaboration to be able to help more than 40,000 canaries (10% of them children) in severe poverty who are cared for by the Food Banks of the Islands. The philanthropist also encourages participation through a video in which he invites them to share with the Canary Islands and on the 21st (tomorrow) to bring non-perishable food, toys and, above all, smiles. «Surely we are not going to have a place to store so much solidarity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, especially on behalf of the children », he values. | Jose Domingo Mendez
