The recently created area of Mobility will address in 2023 the renewal of the two most important contracts it has, which are the maintenance of traffic lightswith a cost of 2.4 million, and signaling, for 1.5.

“With the traffic lights we are going to adjust the number that there is in the city, since within the contract an audit will be carried out that will allow us to rearrange the traffic lights, so that they can be removed or put, depending on what that study determines” , advanced the Councilor for Security and Mobility, Evelyn Alonso, in the presentation of the budgets that it will manage in 2023, and that add up to just over 31 million (11 in Security and 23 in Mobility).

Regarding the signaling contract, “we will proceed to the maintenance, extension and modification of the existing signals, as well as the installation of new elements”, Alonso pointed out. The signaling of the fords of the municipality will also be reviewed.

The non-attached councilor pointed out that the specifications for the signaling contract are already in the legal services, so they could be published before the end of the year, while those for traffic light maintenance could be ready in February.

Study of black spots and works

Another novelty that the Mobility area incorporates is an item of 300,000 euros for a program to improve road safety. “The main objective is to address as a priority the improvement of points that have high accident rates,” explained Alonso, a list of actions that will be provided by the study of road accidents that the area has almost finished, which details the black points of the city, and that it is the first that is done in the municipality.

In addition, the mayor points out that it would be about executing works directly at these points, such as crossroads with low visibility, lowering sidewalks so that a pedestrian crossing is accessible, or placing a traffic light that reduces the accident rate at a point in Santa Determined Cruz, actions that, until now, although authorized by the Mobility area, are other departments, such as Infrastructure or Public Services, which must be executed, delaying time.
