SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has awarded the contract for the drafting of the second phase of the project for the adaptation of the bathing area of La Barranquera, in Valle de Guerra, for an amount of 249,868 euros, which will also include the improvement of the sanitation network of this coastal nucleus.

The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, explained that this action “will not improve the access and use of this space, providing modern and accessible services and equipment, but will provide a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the current sanitation problem in the area, reducing energy and economic costs and improving the quality of life of the residents”.

In this sense, Castro highlighted the work that has been carried out in recent years to revalue the Tenerife coast: “They are spaces that have been degrading over the years and from the Cabildo we understand that it is essential to continue working to recover them and value them, boosting the tourism potential of our municipalities”.

For his part, the insular director of Territory Planning and Historical Heritage, Emilio Fariña, valued the coordinated work with the Tourism area to promote this action and indicated that “the participation of Territorial Planning has focused on guaranteeing that the planned works have all the urban guarantees to be able to start walking on this project for which the neighbors have been waiting for years”.

The Councilor for Beaches and Pools of the La Laguna City Council, Cristina Ledesma, thanked “the involvement and commitment of the Cabildo de Tenerife, and its insular director Laura Castro, for wanting to carry out this important project for the population of Valle de Guerra and of the municipality”. In this sense, she wanted to remember that the discharge of fecal water “has been taking place for more than 30 years, and during all this time it has been claimed by the people so that the solution is prioritized.”

“For the Valleros, La Barranquera is our meeting place, of calm, of culture and respect for the sea, where we have learned to swim, for this reason this progression of work and political will gives us enormous satisfaction, verifying that this project is closer to becoming a reality”, he concluded.

The second phase of this project proposes a series of accessible actions and equipment, both from the coast and the population center of La Barranquera, as well as from the path executed in the first phase. Among other issues, it includes the need to build a promenade, a solarium area, a lifeguard post, toilets and changing rooms; the conditioning of the waterfront, the creation of a children’s area and the provision of a new pedestrian access from the TF-161 highway.

Also included is the importance of separating bathing uses from traditional fishing, protecting the vegetation on the slopes, and enhancing archaeological remains.

Regarding sanitation, the project not only proposes a new sanitation network to eliminate the existing cesspools, but also proposes a water reuse system through a Residual Water Pumping Station (EBAR). The resulting water, already purified and treated, will be redirected for reuse in agricultural irrigation.

This action is part of the Strategic Framework for Island Development 2016-2025, within the Tenerife and the Sea 2015-2025 Program.
