La Laguna City Council offers land to CD Tenerife to build the new stadium in the municipality

The mayor of The lagoonthe socialist Luis Yeray Gutierrezhas announced this Sunday that the City Council has offered the Sports Club Tenerife Municipally owned land to house the new stadium of the blue and white club.

“The relationship with CD Tenerife is unbeatable. In fact, we have made land available to them so that La Laguna can have the possibility of the new stadium being in our municipality”, the councilor said in an interview in Notice Journal.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez recalled that the club now chaired by Paulino Rivero was born from the merger of different teams, “including three relevant ones” from La Laguna.

“We have to give all the facilities to the entity that represents the island,” declared the mayor, who specified that the City Council has offered “different spaces” for CD Tenerife to choose.

Last June, the then president of Tenerife, Miguel Concepción, defended the need to build a new stadium with a capacity of between 35,000 and 40,000 spectators, understanding that the Heliodoro Rodríguez López is “old” and “it’s too small”. Already then he remarked the “good predisposition” of the Cabildo and the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna to locate the new stadium in the metropolitan area.

The already former blue and white leader (replaced this week by former Prime Minister Paulino Rivero) proposed building facilities “in keeping” with the island, “of the English type”, and that include leisure and hospitality services.
