The expediting of the false tunnel project on the South highway between Playa de Las Américas and Fañabé, in the municipality of Adeje, by winning the tender for the drafting of the project and the execution of the works at the same time to shorten administrative processes, has been welcomed with satisfaction among the businessmen of the region, since the works of burying the TF-1 They will start faster.

However, from the Círculo de Empresarios y Profesionales del Sur de Tenerife (CEST), demand an “urgent investment” in the section between Los Cristianos and Guaza, “where all the mobility problems that we face daily in the South are generated.” Its president, Roberto Ucelay, asks the Government of the Canary Islands for “the need to implement any provisional solution or expansion to a third lane” that will end the collapse of traffic.

Ucelay considers the path taken by the Ministry of Public Works to solve the “great drama” of traffic on the island of Tenerife “adequate”, but calls for projects to be carried out “urgently” in strategic areas, such as the aforementioned section of the TF-1 between Los Cristianos and Guaza.

An average of 90,000 vehicles pass through this point of the highway every day in both directions (one of the highest densities in the country) and traffic jams are constant, especially between noon and six in the afternoon, the critical time slot in the one with the highest volume of traffic. The problems have increased in recent months with the high tourist season and the large fleet of rental cars.

On November 23, the Ministry of Public Works awarded the UTE Fhecor Ingenieros Consultores y Trazas Ingeniería the project for the third lane in the 9 kilometers linking Oroteanda and Playa de Las Américas for 382,525 euros. This section will connect with the false tunnel of Adeje.

Meanwhile, work continues on the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda link between kilometer points 62,040 and 64,540 of the highway. The works, with a budget of 21.8 million euros and a completion period of 30 months, include conditioning the road between the two links for the future third lane.
