SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general coordinator of Podemos Canarias, Laura Fuentes, has visited the island of La Palma on the first anniversary of the end of the eruption of Cumbre Vieja, which gave rise to the Tajogaite volcano and which, in her opinion, should “mark a new future “in the reconstruction of the Island.

Laura Fuentes wanted to recall “the fundamental role of collaboration between institutions, civil society and citizens” as a “guarantee for the protection of the people”, highlighting “the resounding commitment of the Government to families and the productive fabric of La Palm”.

“There is a lot that remains to be done, but the efforts made are unprecedented and are based precisely on the fact that a supportive and community-based political reading of this situation has been carried out, listening to the people and prioritizing their participation. The eruption demonstrated, again, that together we can overcome even the worst difficulties,” he said.

For the top leader of Podemos Canarias, “it is essential to value this vision against those who take advantage of the eruption to manage business, as is so often the case when we talk about the Popular Party.”

The meeting, within the framework of the ‘Building the Future’ route with which the purple group currently travels the Achipiélago, was also attended by Ros Martínez (candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands for La Palma) and José Luis Cabrera (candidate for Cabildo de La Palma) and has passed through various enclaves on the island such as Los Cancajos beach, the road that connects the areas of La Laguna and Las Norias (built on the volcano’s lava flows), as well as the municipalities of Fuencaliente and El Paso, where the organization has made a stop at the emblematic Tajuya viewpoint, a privileged point for observing the Tajogaite volcano.

In this sense, Ros Martínez affirmed that on the first anniversary of the eruption they want to recognize the resilience of the people, the work of the professionals and remember that the challenges of the Island go beyond the volcano.

“From Podemos La Palma we aspire to offer next year a comprehensive project for the island that puts at the center the needs of a population that faces great difficulties that the eruption has aggravated. It is essential to focus on the island as a whole, and on the social demands that come from afar. The ‘Isla Bonita’ is a place where people deserve to live well, and for that objective we are going to work”, he expressed.

For his part, Cabrera pointed out the need to “think about an economy that puts the well-being of our people as a priority.” “The Island has enormous potential that today is wasted and forces our young people to leave. It is essential to rethink our island model to turn it into a place of opportunities instead of an empty island,” he said.

“In the first year after the end of the volcanic eruption, we want that spirit of solidarity and responsibility to become the political engine of the island, and we are proud that the colleagues of Podemos La Palma are going to take on this challenge firsthand in an island that badly needs committed governments”, concluded Laura Fuentes.
