The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, signed yesterday the order awarding the drafting of the project and the subsequent execution of the false tunnel works on the TF-1 between Las Américas and Fañabé , in the municipality of Adeje, and the collector roads on it.
The award has fallen to the offer presented by the joint venture formed by Obras con Huarte Lain (OHL)-Transformaciones y Servicios SL-Construcciones Sabina 2014 SLU with an amount of 95,514,026 euros, when initially 117 million euros were expected.
The Ministry has chosen to put out an extraordinary tender at the same time for the drafting of the project and the execution of the works to expedite and shorten the usual administrative processes with the intention of being able to start the work as quickly as possible.
In addition, this formula for joint bidding for project and work allows contractors to define more closely the most viable technical solution to create the false tunnel with the least possible impact on traffic on the southern motorway.
With this work, the TF-1 motorway will be buried with a false tunnel in the section between Las Américas and Miraverde, leaving the upper part converted into a four-lane boulevard with landscaped areas, bike lanes and four roundabouts that allow the traffic between the two shores of Playa de Las Américas, as well as towards Torviscas and Fañabé.
This action will be carried out in a section of about three kilometers of the highway and with it is intended to staunch the cut, as a barrier, that the highway causes in the tourist area of Las Américas, providing greater capacity to the current TF- 1.
The false tunnel would start in the current TF-1 next to the Siam Mall Shopping Center and the police station and would end shortly before the Gran Sur Shopping Center.
After today’s publication in the Contracting Platform, the awarded UTE has one month to sign the reconsideration act and, if there are no incidents in this process, start drafting the project and then start building it, for which that the UTE has an execution period of 45 months.
Rodriguez Fraga
The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, held yesterday the tender for the drafting contracts for the project and subsequent execution of the works on the South highway (TF-1) between Playa de Las Américas and Fañabé, which includes a false tunnel to Miraverde. For the Adejero councilor it is “great news”, as it is an “essential project to help solve the mobility problems of the South and Tenerife”. In this sense, Rodríguez Fraga stressed that a response is given to a “historic demand” that will improve the day-to-day life of thousands of drivers who circulate daily on that section of the TF-1, because “it will channel fast traffic through one level and internal traffic by another”.
