SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, informed this Monday in plenary session of Parliament that his department has planned to expand the Hospital del Norte, dependent on the University Hospital Complex of the Canary Islands, in order to continue increasing the portfolio of health services this hospital.
According to what he said, the purpose is to continue bringing healthcare benefits closer to citizens and to avoid trips to the reference center.
For this, a feasibility study has been carried out that indicates the need for growth and expansion of the hospital units and the possible areas of this expansion in the free soil of the environment to grow about 12,000 meters.
Likewise, Trujillo informed that the professionals of the Hospital del Norte will soon begin to carry out surgical interventions of Gynecology and General Surgery.
In this sense, he explained that the Hospital del Norte began its surgical activity on November 22 with the first outpatient major surgery interventions in the specialties of plastic surgery and dermatology, and incorporating urology and ophthalmology that same week.
He also added that to carry out this activity, the staff has been reinforced with twenty-three newly hired professionals, including nurses, a supervisor, auxiliary nursing care technicians, orderlies, an administrative assistant, cleaning workers and a driver.
The hospital, which has a surgical block, with a surface area of 780 square metres, has two operating rooms, an exterior and an interior waiting room, medical consultation, ante-operating room, awakening area, area for adaptation to the environment, storage, washing hands, changing rooms for surgical personnel and control and admission, among others.
The investment made exceeds two million euros between the execution of the work and the equipment purchased.
AMBULATORY MAJOR SURGERY
Major ambulatory surgery is the care modality in which patients return home the same day of the operation.
Among the advantages it offers are reducing the waiting time to undergo surgery and facilitating the return of the patient to his daily life thanks to the fact that recovery takes place in the family environment and, on the other hand, allows greater availability of hospital beds for other patients with more serious illnesses.
In 2021, the professionals of the Hospital del Norte attended a total of 9,699 emergencies, made 39,789 consultations and 425 admissions to the ward were carried out in its hospitalization area. In addition, 535 day hospital sessions, 6,735 ultrasounds, 9,145 CT and 3,695 magnetic resonances were carried out.
To carry out this activity, the Hospital del Norte currently has a hospitalization area with 49 working beds, a Day Hospital, an Outpatient Pharmacy and an Emergency Service.
It also has an area for outpatient consultations with a wide range of services that include the specialties of cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, dermatology, digestive system, endocrinology and nutrition, rehabilitation, general and digestive surgery, traumatology and orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, otorhinolaryngology and audiometry, ophthalmology, hematology, nephrology, vascular surgery and rheumatology.
Psychiatry is treated at the Icod Health Center and blood extractions are also carried out, collects a note from the Ministry of Health.
This hospital also performs complementary tests of spirometry, electrocardiography, remote pacemaker control, audiometry, nasofibroscopy, diabetes and nutrition education, implanted reservoir lavage, simple radiology, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance, echo- venous doppler, echocardiography, point of blood extraction, minor outpatient surgery, campimetry, pachymetry, ocular computed tomography (oct), retinography, high-resolution consultations with echo doppler, biological therapy for rheumatic inflammatory disease and holter for blood pressure control .
