The Noble Hall of the Cabildo de Tenerife hosted yesterday, Friday, the institutional ceremony in which the Island’s Gold Medal was awarded to Club Deportivo Tenerife in the year of its centenary, in recognition of its sporting career and social impact on the Island.
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, highlighted this unanimous recognition of one of the symbols of Tenerife and highlighted the important role that the Club has played in the sporting, social and economic life of the Island throughout its history.
Pedro Martín highlighted the important work and memory left behind by footballers, coaches, leaders, assistants, among the leading people in the history of the Club, Tenerife and other islands, both national and international. He also had a few words for the presidents who have passed through the Club, among them Miguel Concepción, who has been the one who has stayed the longest.
Martín also valued the fans, “very faithful who put colors above all else, which symbolizes the passion of a people for competitive football; an unconditional fan, who has always accompanied him, both in good times and in bad moments, giving form and character to the feeling of Tenerife, which extends throughout the insular geography”.
In addition to its sporting activity, the island president stressed that the Club “carries out extensive social, educational, solidarity and cultural work, promoting values linked to sport, which helped us to believe in Tenerife, it is not just a sporting element but also help to make people”. “It is a fundamental contribution to society and one that will be recognized over the years,” he said, referring to the work carried out by the Club with its youth academy.
The president of Club Deportivo Tenerife, Miguel Concepción, highlighted that it is a great day in the centenary history of the Club: “It is an honor for the entity that I am honored to preside, to receive the Gold Medal of the Island in this emblematic place. We represent, feel and carry Tenerife deep inside. For a hundred years this club has united all the people of Tenerife around a feeling and a passion”.
