They ask for donations of all blood groups, mainly A and O positive in the Canary Islands

The Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH)under the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islandsrequests citizen collaboration to balance the reserves of blood products of the Canary Islands Transfusion Center during this month of December.

At this time, donations are needed from all blood groups, especially O+ and A+ have registered a notable decline in the stock due to the demand of the last days for treatments and surgical interventions.

The ICHH remember that blood is a perishable product and each of its components has a variable duration, red blood cells have a useful life of 42 days, platelets seven days and plasma two years. This expiration is one of the reasons why it is necessary to maintain a constant number of donations throughout the year.

Protocol for donation

To donate blood you can go directly or make an appointment by calling 012 or 922 470 012 / 928 301 012 (option 8), from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or by filling in the form published on the cover of the web effectodonacion.com. Before going to donate, it is advisable to review the information published on this same web page in the Information and Protocol tab, to familiarize yourself with the established security measures and answer the self-assessment test to check if you can donate blood.
