The El Tablado bridge will be in service again on Monday, if the forecasts of the Cabildo announced by the Island Director of Roads, Tomás Félix García. He hopes that the resurfacing work on the deck of this structure will be completed on Sunday.
At the end of November, and as part of the development of the works, the old asphalt was removed from the bridge platform, “which was also corroded on the upper part”, and a waterproofing sheet was placed. The works were paralyzed since November 28 Given the need to wait for said sheet to set, something that was delayed by the last rain that fell.
This situation generated discomfort in the population of the Tablado, which to enter and/or leave the town was forced to use the links of the South La Caleta-Punta Prieta or Fasnia-Los Roques highway for almost two weeks.
The El Tablado Neighborhood Association made public “our outrage”. The group alluded to the fact that for two months “we have been having specific cuts that we understood to be necessary for the work,” but the permanent closure of the bridge for more than five days affected businesses located in the town. In fact, the public described as a “joke” that the Cabildo reported, by telephone, that the closure of the bridge would last another week, at least. That is, until the next day 16
Neighbors complain about the delay in completing the work and the mayor demands priority
The insular director of Highways denies that this is going to be the case and clarifies that the works for rehabilitate the South highway bridge at the height of El TabladoIn order to correct their high state of corrosion, they are being completed “a month and a half in advance.” The stoppage of the work on the bridge was prolonged by the incidence of rain, which delayed the time required for the waterproofing to set.
García values the work carried out in this enclave of the TF-1. In order not to put the bridge out of service, they proceeded to “raise the deck with hydraulic jacks, solve the corrosion problems that the reinforcement had at the support points, rebuild the pillar and resurface the bridge.”
The mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, requests “speed” in the completion of the work “to avoid further inconvenience” to the residents of El Tablado. The Güimarero councilor stresses that the population and companies of Tablado and Escobonal “are suffering to be able to access and leave their destinations. Without going into technical elements that could have an impact on the situation, we ask the Cabildo to prioritize the completion of this work.
At the same time, Gustavo Pérez demands, “above all, more communication with the population affected by a public action and with the City Council.”
