SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, has met with the mother of Hugo, the minor of 16 years quadriplegic after an accident suffered when jumping into the sea in the Puertito de Güímar, in Tenerife. Her mother requested the Institution’s mediation to obtain adapted housing and the necessary means to allow her son to have the best possible quality of life.

According to experts, the injury that Hugo presents is one of the most complicated, which has left the minor with a 93% disability. Although at first he underwent surgery in Tenerife, the specialists recommended that both he and his mother moved to Gran Canaria so that he could be treated in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit of the Insular Hospital.

“My son is struggling physically and psychologically. Until the end of October he has been asking for euthanasia. He is 16 years old, but he is quite mature for his age,” stressed the mother, who has left her job to dedicate herself exclusively to taking care of Hugo.

Likewise, she also explained that, when moving to Gran Canaria, where she currently lives in a shared apartment set up by the Red Cross, she has also been forced to leave her other son in Tenerife.

Given these circumstances, the mother requested the collaboration of the Common Deputy to mediate with the administrations, in order to be able to have an adapted home in Tenerife so that the minor can make use of the permits that he may have in the future or when he can return to the island.

Yanes regretted the situation the family is going through and indicated that since the accident occurred, the Güímar City Council has contacted the Diputación del Común to activate some action in relation to this case.

In addition, he added that he has spoken with the Councilor for Social Affairs and has confirmed that the efforts to obtain an adapted home for Hugo are very advanced. “The most important thing now is that the family is cared for while the process lasts,” said Yanes.
