SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the public company Turismo de Islas Canarias, has sponsored 198 academic, business, gastronomic, sports and cultural events of tourist interest this year, most of them ( 190) organized by companies and freelancers from the islands.

In addition, the two new calls for 2023 have already been published, both for private and public entities, with various changes that speed up their processing.

Turismo de Canarias began with this initiative in 2021, when it invested 4.7 million that went to 190 events. In 2022, almost 10 million were invested in four calls: two to sponsor events by private entities (5.7 million), one for acts by public entities (1 million) and another for large events in the private sector (3.3 million). millions).

“When we launched this initiative three years ago, we did it to help companies overcome the economic crisis caused by the pandemic and to reactivate our tourism, but always with the intention of transforming these sponsorships into continuous and permanent support of the sector. , through annual calls set in time”, explained the Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla.

An objective that has been met, as Castilla highlighted, since sponsorships have been consolidated as “a successful strategy for generating and distributing wealth among the entire business fabric, and creating employment for our citizens, in addition to the fact that with them We have set a very complete and higher quality activities agenda that is a great pole of attraction for our visitors”.

Yesterday, Monday, the provisional resolution of the call for sponsorship for private entities was published, corresponding to the second half of the year, whose budget was increased to accommodate more events. Of the 2.5 million initially raised, 3.2 million were finally allocated, which have allowed a total of 79 events to be held. The resolution is published on the Canary Islands Tourism website, at the link https://turismodeislascanarias.com/en/sponsorship-entities-p….

CALLS FOR 2023

Looking ahead to next year, Turismo de Canarias has reduced the number of calls and has launched two, one for private entities, with an initial budget of 7.5 million, and another for public entities, valued at 1 million, although both cases the items are subject to expansion.

“We always try to improve the process, learning from our experience in previous years and from the impressions that the companies that submit their applications give us, in order to improve the procedure and find ways to make these calls more agile, effective and simple in its processing”, explained the managing director of Tourism of the Canary Islands, José Juan Lorenzo.

As novelties for next year, the calls for private entities will go from three to one and will cover events held between December 1, 2022 and November 30, 2023, both included.

The granting of sponsorships will be carried out through non-competitive competition, that is, the order of registration of the applications will be followed, as long as they meet the conditions required to be beneficiaries. “In this way, we eliminate the deadlines and leave the presentation open so that any applicant can opt for these sponsorships, as long as there are budgetary availability for it,” explained Lorenzo.

The budget will be distributed among the different months covered by the call, according to the estimated concentration of events per month and island. The requests will be resolved for full months and, if there are excess financial resources, they will be distributed proportionally.

With the aim of optimizing existing resources, minimum (20%) and maximum (40%) percentages of co-financing with applicants are established, as long as they meet the established requirements and obtain the minimum score necessary to access sponsorships.

Events with a budget of less than 375,000 euros may receive a maximum sponsorship of 75,000 euros; For those events with a budget between 375,000 euros and 500,000 euros, Turismo de Islas Canarias may allocate a maximum of 100,000 euros; and those events that exceed 500,000 euros, will have a maximum of 150,000 euros.

The two 2023 sponsorship calls for events organized by both public and private entities are published on the Canary Islands Tourism website and can be consulted at the link https://turismodeislascanarias.com/es/convocatoria-de-patroc….
