Tenerife comeback in the National for Couples

Spectacular comeback that took place on the third day of the XXX Spanish Championship of dominoes in pairs by the Tenerife duo formed by Ramón Pablo Luis Ravelo and Aniceto González González, to deservedly proclaim themselves new national champions.

The people of Tenerife completed their triple crown after also winning the Tenerife and Spain Team Championships, after staging a comeback from the eighth position they occupied at the end of the second day, with a record of eight wins and two losses. To achieve this, the people of Tenerife were able to add the victory in their four games yesterday, relegating the Gran Canaria couple, of Galician origin, formed by Óscar Cambeiro Fuentes and José Antonio Naveira Rodríguez to second place, with a single victory difference with respect to the champions, having been defeated in two of the last four games.

On the third step of the podium they were accompanied by the Murcian couple formed by Jesús Bernal and José Marín, who, like the people of Tenerife, had a spectacular third day to climb from sixteenth to third position.

“We are very excited, because this title is the culmination of our most complete year since I played dominoes, in which I have been able to be champion of the DT, in teams and in pairs,” declared an emotional Aniceto González as soon as he was proclaimed champion.

The Barcelonan Pilar Araujo –the first female Spanish champion in pairs in 2019– and one of the women participating in this edition, stated that she was delighted to have the opportunity to “continue enjoying the game after the pandemic”.

For his part, José Miguel Santana, president of the Federación Insular de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria de Dominó, was happy with the success in terms of participation and the level of sport experienced during the three days that the championship lasted. «We hope to have fulfilled the expectations of all the participants in this championship and to have been worthy representatives of dominoes in Spain. We wanted to be as hospitable as we canaries are and that all the participants who return to the peninsula do so happy for having visited us”, declared the federation from Gran Canaria, who stressed that he was very happy that “the first place and the second place have remained fen Canarias».

Faustino Alegría, president of the Spanish Federation expressed his satisfaction with the success of a championship in which “two friends Ramón and Aniceto are proclaimed champions, who must be congratulated twice because they have had an incredible season that they have finished with this championship in pairs ».

«For four or five years we have been demanding the attention of public institutions and we have gone from not receiving attention to being able to hold press conferences with them and to collaborate in most of our events. I think they have realized that dominoes are necessary in our society, whether for children, the elderly, women or people with disabilities. We are working with them and they are understanding us,” the president concluded.

Dominoes have their Messi

With 90 years behind them, the Spanish Domino Championship in pairs once again had one of its references, the Asturian Nemesio Alonso Tejerina, nicknamed Messi by his teammates, in a play on words with the diminutive of his name and by his style and mastery of dominoes.

On this occasion he formed a sports partner with Norberto Cano Goyo, closing his participation in the tournament with a balance of six games won and eight lost.

On the other hand, highlight the participation of Ana Gordillo Hormigo, who, forming a pair with Silvestre Sánchez Palomares, was the best ranked woman in the tournament (39th), with a balance of eight games won and six lost.

The couple formed by Lola Barberá Cervera and María Luz María Gonzálvez, was the best female duo in the championship, closing their participation in the Miller Building event with five games won and nine lost, which put them in 121st place.
