SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, has declared a situation of alert for rain in El Hierro and La Palma starting at 11:00 p.m. today, Tuesday. This decision is made taking into account the information available and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The alert situation is due to the forecast of widespread and persistent weak-moderate rainfall, with probable heavy and/or stormy showers, particularly on the peaks and the western and southern slopes of La Palma and El Hierro. Likewise, the situation is expected to be especially intense between 06:00 and 15:00 tomorrow, Wednesday.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has already activated the orange warning (major risk) in El Hierro and La Palma due to rains that could leave up to 30 liters per square meter in one hour, and the yellow warning (risk) due to maximum gusts of wind between 70 and 80 km/h due to the risk of storms.
