Calls to 016 in the Canary Islands grew by more than 12% in the month of October

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE/MADRID, Dec. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Calls to 016 during the month of October reached 588 in the Canary Islands, which is 12.8% more compared to the same month in 2021, when 521 calls were registered, according to data provided by the Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against gender violence.

Between January and October of this year, a total of 6,691 calls to 016 have been recorded in the Canary Islands, 38.5% more than in the same period of the previous year, when 4,830 calls were made.

Nationwide, calls to 016 during the month of October reached 7,947, which is a figure 3.4% higher than that registered in the same month of 2021.

The department headed by Irene Montero has indicated that, added to these more than 7,900 pertinent calls registered in the month of October 2022, a total of 1,120,192 calls have been recorded since this service was launched, since September 2007.

Of the figures registered in the month of October, Equality has indicated that 71.6% of the calls were made by the user herself, which represents an increase of 1.9 percentage points compared to October 2021; while 21.3% of the calls were made by relatives and close friends, which, in this case, represents a decrease of 1.1 percentage points with respect to those recorded a year earlier.

Meanwhile, 6.9% of the calls were made by other people or there is no record of who made them, something that also represents a drop, in this case, of 0.8 percentage points compared to October of the previous year 2021.

HIGHEST INCREASE IN LA RIOJA AND ARAGÓN

Regarding the greatest increase in relative terms in the number of relevant calls, the one that has recorded the most increase is La Rioja, since its 63 calls in October represents a growth of more than 90.9% compared to the same month of 2021; followed by Aragón, whose 242 calls are 61.3% more than in the previous year. If the highest rate of pertinent calls per million women aged 15 and over is taken into account, the autonomous community that leads the ranking is Madrid (653.9), followed by the Canary Islands (608.7).

Regarding the same service, but attended through WhatsApp, Equality have explained that 473 pertinent inquiries were received in the month of October 2022, of which 86% were related to gender violence (in the area of ​​the couple or ex-partner) and 13.9% were references to another type of violence against women.

And, in relation to those queries made by email, a total of 118 pertinent queries are collected in October 2022, of which 86.4% were related to gender violence and 13.5% to another type of violence. violence against women.

In the same way, the Ministry recalls that the 016 service has incorporated into its services a new communication channel for inquiries, online chat, available through the website of the Government Delegation Against Gender Violence. In this case, during the month of October, 665 pertinent inquiries were received through this new channel. Of these, 90.2% were related to gender violence, while only 9.7% corresponded to other types of violence against women.

ATENPRO SERVICE

On the other hand, Equality highlights that the number of registrations in the telephone service for attention and protection for victims of
gender violence (ATENPRO) has registered 785 registrations and 830 casualties in the month of October. In this way, as of October 31, 2022, the number of active users in this service is 17,035, which represents a decrease of 0.2% compared to September 2022 and an increase of 2.5% compared to to October 2021.

In this case, it explains that the largest increase in the number of active users, in relative terms and by autonomous community, during the month of October 2022, was registered in Extremadura, 28.6% more than a year earlier; and in the autonomous city of Ceuta, 15.3% more than in October 2021.
