San Miguel de Abona approves the largest budget in history

The budget of San Miguel de Abona for the year 2023 it amounts to 22,482,053 euros. The amount represents an increase of 15.50% compared to the current year and is “the largest in the history of the municipality.” In the words of the mayor, Arturo González, and the councilor for the Treasury, Antonio Manuel Rodríguez, “a budget that, for another year, is presented with a total absence of public debt and in good standing.”

The authorities defend that the economic document “will continue to promote action and social promotion, improve public services it will strengthen education, culture, traditions and sports and is committed to reactivating the municipal economy, through an investment plan in all neighborhoods.

The Consistory allocates more than 3.3 million euros to the social area, with the largest figure ever budgeted for study aid at all levels and that, with 320,000 euros, is equivalent to an increase of 60%. In the solidarity dynamic towards social groups, it not only incorporates beneficiaries –there are already 17–, but also increases the money they receive annually by 20%.

in matters of EmploymentSan Miguel de Abona budgets 965,000 euros, an amount with which “we intend to hire 140 unemployed through extraordinary social employment plans and other agreements,” says the local government.

Works and Other Investments

The investment chapter has 1,582,459 euros, but it will be complemented by the incorporation of almost 17,000,000 of the remainder of this year, “which will be used for a package of works for the different neighborhoods». In this list there is 7,040,000 euros for the Llano del Camello Sports Complex (future municipal swimming pool), one million for the roof and walkway of the Óscar González Rodríguez sports center, 220,000 euros for the lighting of the football Pedro Alonso Alayón (Aldea Blanca) and 200,000 euros for drinking water supply works, expansion and improvement of water networks in Llano del Camello-Aldea Blanca, Las Zocas, El Roque, Amarilla Golf and Golf del Sur.

Likewise, 100,000 euros appear for urbanization, resurfacing and sidewalk works on Fermín Pérez street (El Frontón), one million for the day center for the elderly in Guargacho, 1,700,000 euros for the municipal drinking water tank in Las Zocas, another 3 million to clean up the historic center of San Miguel, 1,400,000 euros for the efficiency and energy savings of public lighting in Cruz Ballena, Las Zocas and Tamaide, the installation of photovoltaic panels in municipal offices and the supply of photovoltaic streetlights in Golf del Sur.

The list of investments contemplates 220,000 euros for the adaptation and improvement of sidewalks in the vicinity of the Town Hall, improvements to parking on the general highway of the South, half a million euros for resurfacing of sidewalks and asphalt in Llano del Camello, Las Chafiras, Amarilla Golf, Golf del Sur and agricultural roads; another 800,000 euros to reform and improve public lighting in Golf del Sur, 350,000 euros to be used in urban furniture, the acquisition of sports, leisure and signage material; another 220,000 euros to buy two electric vehicles and create charging areas, as well as 140,000 euros for training classrooms in El Roque.

Saint Michael of Abona keeps municipal rates and taxes frozen and, even, it will subsidize the Personal Property Tax (IBI) by 50% to all those family units that install alternative and/or green energies that come from the sun (solar and thermal panels).

The increase in raw materials and the rising energy and fuel prices, has caused contracts for street cleaning, parks and gardens, solid urban waste collection, recycling, public lighting and maintenance of municipal facilities, among others, have become more expensive. For this reason, almost nine million are consigned “to guarantee an adequate provision of public services to the neighbors.”

awareness campaigns

In environmental matters, the local government “continues to bet on awareness campaigns and waste communication». In addition, it allocates 350,000 euros to support social, cultural, festive and sports groups, guaranteeing nominal subsidies to associations, sports clubs and individual athletes. In terms of tourism, the municipality will participate in the most important fairs with the accommodation and gastronomic offer while promoting traditional commerce and restaurants.
