SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The candidate of the Canary Islands Coalition for the Presidency of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has regretted that the Island has not been chosen as the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency or the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence, whose headquarters will be located in Seville and La Coruña, respectively.

“Tenerife falls behind again. The lack of leadership of the PSOE and Pedro Martín has been demonstrated once again. We are facing another bad news for the Island because we lose a great opportunity to bet on innovation and diversify our economy” Davila said.

“Tenerife could have become a pole of attraction for funds for development and research linked to these agencies, but we have seen how the Government of Pedro Sánchez rewards two socialist mayors -Seville and La Coruña- and forgets, once more, from the people of Tenerife”, added the candidate from Tenerife.

For his part, the insular councilor of CC-PNC Félix Fariña pointed out that Tenerife’s candidacy was made at the proposal of the Canary Islands Coalition and was unanimously approved in July: “We bet on a multi-site candidacy, similar to the European Space Agency, because We understood that a multi-site Canarian candidacy had much more strength and advantage to compete with other communities, but the PSOE did not opt for that”.

Fariña remarked that the work carried out since the previous term in the Cabildo “allowed it to accommodate either of the two agencies.” “We are talking about the telecommunications networks deployed by the Cabildo, the ITER supercomputers and the support of other research institutions such as the University of La Laguna (ULL) or the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), a space research center with a long and recognized trajectory. Unfortunately, Tenerife continues to lag behind without anyone from the PSOE moving a finger,” he added.
