Torres says that they cannot change the state law and claims the agreement “by majority” to stabilize the toilets

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, stated this Friday that the state law for the consolidation of positions cannot be changed, so it is “complicated” to comply with the demands of the group of temporary doctors who have started an indefinite strike.

In statements to journalists, he has vindicated the agreement reached this Thursday at the Health Sector Table to stabilize 12,146 professionals, of which 10,000 will do so in a phase of merits, given that it has been “by majority” of the unions –a exception of Intersindical Canaria–.

He has pointed out that since the law was approved in December 2021, the Government has been working to “meet the deadlines” and before the end of the year the bases and calls must be drawn up.

Along these lines, he has commented that the agreement with the workers of the General Administration has already been certified and negotiations are being held with those of Education, but he has made it clear that the law affects the Basic Statute of Public Employees, which “marks some years for competition and others for merits”.

He has highlighted that an agreement has been reached in Health because “it is not easy” and now he hopes that the same will be done with Education.

Thus, he has said that on Monday there will be a meeting with representatives of the music conservatories, whom they support “closely”, but has warned that “it is impossible” to modify a decree at state level.

However, he pointed out that “steps are being taken” in the negotiations, which shows that “dialogue and the search for consensus prevail.”

Torres has admitted the right of the Mesa de Confluencia -already constituted as a union- to go on strike but has stressed that their requests “do not fall within the legislation” and that most of the unions “value the effort” of the Executive for responding “to an excess of temporality of decades”.

The president has denied that the Government has applied “the roller” in the negotiations and trusts that the negotiations with the temporary doctors will be maintained so that they join the agreement. “It can be improved and we are open until December 30,” he commented.
