Brigitte Gypen, president of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation, found it hard to contain her excitement yesterday. It was not for less. Three years later, she sat down again in front of the cameras and microphones to present the charity event that mobilizes the most people in Tenerife and that the pandemic has taken from the streets in the last two editions. Flanked by the mayors of Adeje and Arona, Gypen spoke from her heart. “It is very exciting to be here today, we can finally announce that we will walk together again”, were her first words.

The Race for Life will set foot on the asphalt again next Sunday the 11th. Under the motto “Always together”, the great pink tide of more than 5,000 people will leave at 11 in the morning from the Siam Mall and will travel the four kilometers that separate this shopping center, in the municipality of Adeje, from the so-called golden mile, in Arona, the arrival point where the organization has planned musical performances, a great dance and “some surprises”.

The solidarity walk to support patients fighting against breast cancer and, above all, to raise awareness to detect this pathology on time, wants to break the record of participants (5,200 people in 2018). Those furthest behind can register today and tomorrow, as well as next Friday and Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Siam Mall, as well as on the day of the walk. For 5 euros they will receive a pink t-shirt with the slogan of this year’s edition. The organization will enable a bus service to transport participants who, for health reasons, cannot complete the tour.

This year, the godmothers will be the players of the UDG Tenerife Egatesa, representative of Tenerife in the First Division of women’s football, present at yesterday’s event. Natalia Ramos, one of the pillars of the team, spoke on her behalf, describing the proposal to lead the Race for Life 2022 as “pride” and “privilege”. “My mother overcame breast cancer and has been an example for the family, there is no greater fight than facing a disease of this degree and she has taught us to battle against adversity, “he revealed.

Both the mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, and that of Arona, José Julián Mena, highlighted that the initiative led by Brigitte Gypen is a symbol of “struggle and hope”, which helps to “make visible a reality, but also to vindicate ”. In this sense, both demanded from the Canarian public health “complete oncological services at the Hospital del Sur”.

Brigitte Gypen, who thanked the volunteers for their “great involvement”, also revealed that the Think Pink Europe network, which brings together some thirty countries, will hold its assembly in Tenerife on the 10th and two delegates from 22 countries will put on the shirts roses and will make the journey.

The president of the Foundation dedicated a special memory to Hilda Siverio, a very dear patient, godmother of the 2019 edition, who is currently in a delicate state of health. “Lots of people are going to come to walk on it,” she said excitedly.
