More than 25,000 light bulbs, nutcrackers over two meters tall and a Santa Claus measuring 1.80. The most Christmas house in the Canary Islands is in Tenerife and is the result of the imagination and dreams of Lorenzo Barroso and his son, also called Lorenzo. His father recently passed away, now the son not only maintains the family tradition, but tries to make it grow year after year.

In 1995 this family began to decorate their house, located in Valle de Guerra, in a special way. “Over the years, the word began to spread until it became what it is today: a true tradition,” says Lorenzo, already about to light up this year, which will be next December 4 at 7:00 p.m.

“People visit the house like those who go to La Laguna or Santa Cruz to see the lighting,” he says, visibly happy. His work is completely handmade and he does not have any kind of help, everything comes out of his pocket, his imagination and his hands: “Since August I have been thinking about this and preparing things little by little. For example, for one of this year’s novelties, two nutcrackers measuring more than two meters (2.10), I recycled some cardboard tubes that I found outside a printing press last July”.

The figures, taking into account that the house is just over a hundred square meters, are overwhelming: more than 25,000 light bulbs, in addition to those two nutcrackers of more than two meters, a Santa Claus of almost two meters and an infinity of decorations of all kinds. : “The house is not only striking at night, due to the lights, but also during the day.”

Because every year is a real challenge, trying to “put something different each time” so that “people don’t get bored”. “We recovered the Bethlehem after the pandemic, next to the door of the house, so that it can be visited by the people who want to. We participated in the La Laguna Nativity Scene Contest ”, he indicates.

Energy saving lightbulbs

When Lorenzo points out that the lighting consists of more than 25,000 light bulbs, the question is quick, especially with the price of electricity: how do you keep spending from skyrocketing? “Out of respect for the energy measures that have been taken around the world, the ignition will have a schedule, we will turn on at 6:00 p.m. and turn off at 11:00 p.m.”

Lorenzo emphasizes that, by having low consumption light bulbs, the cost is not excessive, although on occasions they have made an effort so that “the illusion is always the same”, especially when seeing “the faces of the boys and girls” when see the decoration

You already know, if you want to visit the most Christmassy house in the Canary Islands, all you have to do is go to the Boquerón road number 189, in Valle de Guerra, where Lorenzo will be waiting for you.
