«The work of the Circuit of the Engine It will be tendered before the end of the year. This is how forceful the vice president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and insular Councilor for Mobility, Enrique Arriaga. He does so when questioned about the controversy in recent days with the infrastructure to be built in Atogo (Granadilla de Abona). He insists before the critics of Canarian Coalition in what “What has been known is the draft of the budget project.” He adds: “We will see on the 16th – plenary session – who votes in favor of the Circuit and who does not.” Arriaga denies that the nationalists, as they state, have forced the amendment registered by the government team of PSOE and Ciudadanos (Cs) to provide 5.5 million euros to the circuit in the year 2023. CC assures in a statement that “force” to include quantity.
safe steps
Arriaga values that «we are very scrupulous in meeting all the deadlines of the file so that there can be no type of claim later. We don’t want anything to go wrong and we can’t allow ourselves to be left behind by going faster”. He recalls that “next year we will have a game that can be expanded with the remnants of the Treasury.” He concludes: “The tender for the work will be a reality before the end of the year if the forecasts we handle are met.”
“Independent” voting
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, in statements to Radio Club Tenerife values: “There is a proposal with entry registration, signed by the PSOE and Cs of just over 5.5 million euros.” He adds: “It is placed independently so that it is also voted in the same way and make things clear”. Martín adds that “the party that voted against was Coalición Canaria; then he retracted and did it in favor due to the pressure of the fans and the motor sector ». He points out that “we had to take it back to plenary and you only have to look at the minutes to verify it.”
“Enhanced” project
The island president underlines: “We have improved the project, adapting it to international regulations and facing the works of the northern access.” He acknowledges that “we are very careful because we review the reports regarding everything that refers to the environmental issue.” He explains the reason: “Prevent us from proceeding to start the works and there is a complaint.”
Martín adds: «Environmental issues must be worked on in detail. That is why we carry the item independently to the budgets ». The president concludes: “In the presentation of the circuit I said that this is not from the PSOE or Ciudadanos but that you have to take a consensual position in most of the parties and, above all, not entangle.”
“Three days later”
Verónica Meseguer, counselor of the Canary Islands Coalition in the Cabildo, points out that “in the draft budget for 2023 approved on the 15th -in the Governing Council- there was only a contribution of 173,000 euros for the Motor Circuit”. She adds that “the government group presented an amendment to its own budget on the 18th, three days later, to finance the work, as we demanded.” Meseguer announces that they will present a new amendment because they consider the endowment “insufficient if they really want to give a boost” to the infrastructure.
Commitment in plenary
The commitment approved in the plenary session of May by all the groups, except Sí Podemos Canary Islands, it was a multi-year financing of 60 million euros until 2025. “We want that agreement to be fulfilled”, sentence Meseguer. The CC-PNC counselor recalls that “we already warned then that the 5.1 million euros that we approved would be very difficult to spend this year. In fact, she adds, “with just over a month to go before the end of 2022, the works have not yet been tendered.”
CC summarizes that the budget project approved on the 15th includes an investment of 172,952 euros for the Motor Circuit in 2023 (page 260) and some 398,000 until 2025 (page 683). “Now they have removed 5.5 million from the Highway area to put it into construction. We are going to continue monitoring so that what was approved in plenary is fulfilled”.
Verónica Meseguer demands that the motion approved in May 2022 be complied with and the Motor Circuit monitoring table be convened immediately.
