The Hospital del Norte, dependent on the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias (HUC) and attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, incorporated major outpatient surgery to its portfolio of services on Monday with the performance of plastic surgery and dermatology interventions, urology and ophthalmology, and gynecology and general surgery will also be performed.
This surgical block, with a surface area of 780 square metres, has two operating rooms, an exterior waiting room and an interior waiting room, a medical consultation, ante-operating room, an awakening area, an area for adaptation to the environment, a storage room, handwashing, and changing rooms for surgical personnel. and control and admission, among others. The investment made amounts to 1.3 million euros for the work and 759,757 for equipment, including instruments.
In addition, 23 professionals have been recruited, including nurses, a supervisor, auxiliary nursing care technicians, orderlies, an administrative assistant, cleaning workers, and a driver. On the other hand, the surgical and anesthesiology services have increased their resources to be able to respond to this initiative.
The manager, Mercedes Cueto, points out that, “in this way, benefits are expanded by bringing services closer to the population and avoiding travel to the HUC, which means a better quality of life for users in the North area.” She also adds that the opening of this Unit completes the portfolio of services offered by the center, with the area of Consultations, Hospitalization and Emergencies.
Major ambulatory surgery is the care modality in which patients return home the same day of the operation. Among the advantages it offers are freeing operating rooms and hospital beds for other patients with more serious illnesses, reducing the waiting time to be operated on, and facilitating the return of the patient to his daily life thanks to the recovery taking place. in the family environment.
