SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Health, the distribution of 1.7 million euros to the Canary Islands to promote the rational use of medicines, within the framework of the Development Program for training health cohesion policies for physicians of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Education of the population, and to reinforce the National Bone Marrow Plan.

The Canary Islands will have 1.6 million euros to promote the Program for the Improvement of the Rational Use of Medicines, which has a total allocation of 35.9 million euros. At the same time, the Government will allocate more than 2 million euros to the National Bone Marrow Plan, of which the Canary Islands will receive 52,269.08 euros for personnel and other investments.

The Government of Spain thus increases the investment allocated to the program to promote the rational use of medicines by 34% compared to last year, when just over 26.9 million euros were distributed among the autonomous communities and cities.

Likewise, the endowment of the Bone Marrow Plan increases in 2022 by more than 60% compared to the previous year, when close to 1.3 million euros were distributed for the territorial development of the program.

IMPROVING THE RATIONAL USE OF MEDICINES

With the funds that will be distributed for the Program for the Improvement of the Rational Use of Medicines, the autonomous communities and cities will develop actions such as pharmacotherapeutic interventions to improve the quality of care for patients with frailty, comorbidity, chronic diseases, complex care needs or polymedicated patients, actions aimed at the deprescription of unnecessary drugs, or the development of actions to promote health and disease prevention and optimization in the use of drugs.

Also included are actions on information systems (such as the development of the electronic prescription process, prescription support systems and integration of the Master Gazetteer) or other programs to guarantee the sustainability of the SNS, improve the quality and safety of its services, or consolidation of therapeutic positioning reports; among other measures framed in the different plans and strategies agreed within the Permanent Pharmacy Commission.

NATIONAL BONE MARROW DONATION PLAN

The Canary Islands will receive 52,269.08 euros within the framework of the National Bone Marrow Donation Plan, which will have a total investment of 2,041,430 euros as a health strategy of the SNS Quality Plan. Of the global endowment, 1,178,780 euros will be dedicated to the promotion, information and HLA typing of donors registered in the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO).

To this amount are added the remaining 862,650 euros, which will be used to type 50% of the high-quality Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) units stored in public banks.
