SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The CEO of Foreign Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Liskel Álvarez, has inaugurated this Tuesday in the Los Lavaderos art room, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the photographic exhibition ‘The future is today’, by Manuel Arechavaleta, in which It brings the public closer to the situation in which girls, boys and young people study in The Gambia.
The exhibition, organized by the Correcaminos Solidarios de Tenerife association, with the support of the Cabildo’s External Action delegate area, has opened its doors as part of the commemoration of ‘World Children’s Day’.
Thus, it can be visited until this Sunday 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
“From the Cabildo we have supported this initiative to pay attention to the neighboring continent of Africa, specifically in the country of Gambia, in order to create awareness in the population, in general, about the difficulties that thousands of girls and boys are going through in the world to be able to count on this basic universal right, such as education”, said Liskel Álvarez in a note, adding that “through the exhibition we are invited to reflect on this reality, from a positive and inspiring perspective, to value the importance of education so that the future and opportunities go hand in hand”.
The opening ceremony also included the participation of the president of the organization Correcaminos Solidarios de Tenerife, Lorenzo García, and Gladis de León, Councilor for Culture of the Santa Cruz City Council, whose interventions have focused on giving visibility to children, the defense of their rights and the work carried out by entities and groups in this task, thanks to the collaboration and public awareness.
The exhibition is made up of 23 photographs “selected from the images captured in the last six years in which I have traveled to The Gambia to find out in depth the academic situation of girls and boys in the country, both in public and private centers”. explained its author, Arechavaleta.
For Liskel Álvarez, childhood is a fundamental stage in education and for this reason they have collaborated in this initiative “in defense of this universal right to study, regardless of the region or country in which one resides.”
Álvarez also emphasized “the need to continue working for children’s rights, through dialogue and actions between administrations, agencies and entities, that involve citizens in building a better world for children and young people” .
The CEO also highlighted the work carried out in Gambia by the organization Correcaminos Solidarios de Tenerife, which thanks to its solidarity work has brought education to hundreds of girls and boys.
