SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has visited the recreational area of Las Mesas park this Monday after the improvement works promoted by the Insular corporation through an agreement with the Santa Cruz City Council to recover this space that has remained for several years closed.

Pedro Martín, who was accompanied by the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, stressed that “the Cabildo has made an investment of 861,813 euros, aimed at resolving the damage detected, as well as conditioning this natural environment, which has a barbecue, children’s area and car parks, among other services”.

Thus, after waiting so long, he said, “it is time to appeal to the civility of the citizenry to take care of the environment and guarantee its use in good conditions.”

In addition, he pointed out that “the works, carried out in a little less than nine months, have been somewhat delayed due to the destruction, breakage and acts of vandalism suffered in the infrastructures and services in the area”, which have been repaired, but the city ”finally recovers this recreational area.

He has highlighted the “impulse” achieved with the agreement between the Cabildo and the City Council and “the emblematic of this natural environment to enjoy nature, play sports and share with the family, not only for the residents of the capital, but of the island”.

For his part, José Manuel Bermúdez revealed that “this is an important day for this municipality” and thanked the Cabildo for “these long-awaited works have finally been completed, in a recreational environment that was widely used, not only for the residents of Santa Cruz, but of the entire metropolitan area”.

Along these lines, he added that “the idea is that it can be used by the whole family, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and from this very week the presence of the Local Police, of the Forestry Unit, will be incorporated into the idea of give it a sense of surveillance, even though it will be an open area.”

THE VISITORS CENTER, WAITING

In fact, he has indicated that throughout this week the entire space will be incorporated into public use, although with respect to the second phase of the Visitors Center they have not yet decided on “the specific uses”.

“The good news is that it is open to the public, so now we hope that these facilities in the heart of the Biosphere Reserve are used in a good way and not vandalized as has happened before,” remarked the mayor.

The act was attended by the insular director of Territorial Planning and Historical Heritage, Emilio Fariña, and the Councilor for Infrastructures, Dámaso Arteaga, collected a note from the corporation.

Emilio Fariña explained that the rehabilitation of the property that is located in the park still remains.

“The City Council will be in charge of drafting the project, as well as defining the use that can be given to these facilities, and we, on behalf of the Cabildo de Tenerife, are going to collaborate in the development of the work,” he explained, At the same time, he highlighted the good collaboration between the Cabildo and the City Council through the monitoring commission of the work, to promote this action so expected by the citizens.
