The Cabildo institutionally agrees to establish “compensation for the taxi sector while the discounts on buses and trams last.” The counselor of Canarian Coalition Félix Fariña, promoter of the initiative, appreciates the support of all political groups. For her part, the nationalist candidate for the insular presidency, Rosa Dávila, points out that the approved motion “is positive for an important sector in public transport.”
The proposal was agreed upon by the Plenary Committee on Sustainability, Roads, Innovation and Culture. The document specifies that “The Cabildo will establish, in coordination with the Island’s Town Halls and while the reduction/free public transport fares for Titsa and Metropolitano last, a compensation system for users or taxi drivers in interurban and urban sections to help the sector and make it more competitive.
To this end, it will request the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands and of the State. Rosa Dávila also explains that thanks to the approved motion, the Cabildo “will launch and include in the budgets for 2023 lines of help for the purchase of hybrid or electric vehicles.” This means helping the sector to contribute to the climate emergency declared by the Cabildo and the Government of Canary Islands to fight against climate change and the adaptation of vehicles for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
For his part, the nationalist counselor, Félix Fariña, appreciates the support of all the groups to reach an agreement that benefits the taxi sector and includes the start-up – urgently and in coordination with the affected municipalities – of an awareness campaign in defense of the taxi sector and against existing intrusions, “since the latter damages the image of Tenerife and puts users at risk.” Explain.
Similarly, Fariña points out that the Cabildo will commission a study on the current situation of the taxi on the Island “to detect threats, opportunities, weaknesses and opportunities, profitability and that results in a sustainability plan for the sector in Tenerife.”
In addition, in municipalities with wide territorial dispersion and an aging population, the Cabildo will accelerate the integration of taxis into the island transport system, on demand, to link homes with bus stops in the “last kilometer”.
Promotion of technological employment
The Cabildo, through the Science and Technology Park, opens the period to participate in a program to promote job in technological sectors. The Island Councilor for Innovation, Enrique Arriaga, explains that Talentum Top brings together companies and job seekers in order to “adapt the training of participants to the demand of companies in the sector.” The deadline for submitting applications for both beneficiaries and companies ends on the 30th. The uniqueness of this program lies in the fact that it is designed jointly to guarantee that it meets the specific requirements that companies have when recruiting personnel.
