SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched a campaign on the occasion of the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ which is celebrated every November 25 under the slogan ‘The power to love you’ and which focuses on women older, an even more vulnerable and invisible group.

The Minister of Social Action, Marián Franquet, emphasizes that “this campaign is not an isolated action, but is part of the ‘Conecta Mayores’ project and of a comprehensive strategy in which all areas of this corporation are involved with one objective clear: improve the quality of life and well-being of the elderly throughout the island”.

According to Franquet, “we want to reach out to all women, but especially older ones, so that they feel represented, supported, heard and cared for”.

Along these lines, she highlights the importance of “an environment that supports, helps and gets involved, because in the face of gender violence it is essential that women know that they are not alone.”

For her part, the CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, recalls that a few months ago the results of the study on the situation of women over 65 who suffer gender violence on the island were presented. .

“From this study it emerged that one in three women treated for sexist violence at the IASS had lived more than 50 years in an environment of violence,” he says.

However, Priscila de León points out, “only half came to denounce the situation, an indicator that is as illuminating as it is worrying and that has motivated our message against gender violence this year to pay special attention to older women.”

It also points out that “these women did not feel represented by the prevention and awareness campaigns against gender violence that were carried out.”

Now, he indicates, “they want to make amends, because for that we insist on doing this type of study, to know, act and advance.”

The campaign began to be broadcast on November 10 and will run until November 25 on social media, which especially includes the buses of Titsa.

“Our goal, like every year, is for the message to penetrate as much as possible, which is why we have used all the channels within our reach,” concludes Priscila de León.

In the same way, different activities have been programmed, such as training talks in educational centers, professional associations and town halls; workshops, and artistic activities.

Among them, the play ‘Basta de flores’ stands out, a monologue that portrays the mistreatment suffered by Estela, at the hands of her partner, in the privacy of her domestic life.

The play, by the Tenerife company TEATRAPA, will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at TEA.
