SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands and vice president of the Conference of Regional Legislative Assemblies of the EU (CALRE), Gustavo Matos, participated this Thursday in the meeting of the Standing Committee held in the Parliament of Wallonia, a preparatory meeting for the Plenary Assembly scheduled for this Friday.

In his speech, he recalled the important role of the regions as a “connection bridge” between citizens and European policies, for which reason he supported the proposal for the Czech and Slovak parliaments to join CALRE, which will be debated tomorrow.

Presidencies of parliaments and legislative assemblies from around thirty EU regions will attend CALRE meetings until this Friday, where the conclusions of the working groups are taken stock, the 2023 presidency will be elected and the roadmap for the new period, collects a note from Parliament.

Before this forum, Matos explained the ‘Parliament Forum’ initiative, launched at the beginning of this X Legislature and already consolidated as a space for debate and reflection on issues of interest to citizens.

“With Parliament Forum, we wanted to create a space for all areas of society, contributing to the permanent debate that must take place in democracy to consolidate the space of freedom and coexistence that it represents,” he commented.
