SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved the contribution of one million euros to the La Laguna City Council for the execution of rehabilitation works on 438 homes in the lagoon district of El Cardonal, an action that will be financed between the central government, Regional Executive, Cabildo and City Council, together with the people who own the houses.

The works are included in the first phase of the program to improve the Residential Environment for Programmed Rehabilitation (ERRP) of El Cardonal.

For its execution, 21,179,440 euros have been budgeted and of this amount, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and the regional Executive will contribute, with European funds, 10,973,299 euros; the City Council of La Laguna, 9,032,508 euros, to be financed in the four-year period 2023-2026, the residents will pay 173,632 euros and the Cabildo, one million euros.

The insular contribution will be made effective this year through an agreement between the Cabildo de Tenerife and the City Council of La Laguna, collects a note from the insular corporation.

The president, Pedro Martín, emphasizes “the importance of undertaking this type of work in a matter as necessary as housing so that families can have a residence in habitable conditions and also contribute to regenerating and renewing the environment in which who reside”.

The objective, he comments, “is to continue on this path of cooperation with the municipalities, especially helping those who have the greatest difficulties in executing works, so that they can meet the social demands and services that are basic for citizens.”

Pedro Martín also points out that “the Cabildo will continue to favor collaboration with the town halls in those projects and actions that improve people’s daily lives”.

With this objective, he indicates, “only for what is housing rehabilitation, we allocate more than three million euros, carrying out actions in all the municipalities of Tenerife”.

For his part, the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, underlines “the commitment of the Government of La Laguna to improve habitability and accessibility conditions in those areas of the municipality that require the intervention of public administrations.”

In this sense, he appreciates “the involvement of the Cabildo, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Government of Spain to carry out some much-needed works, which the residents of Cardonal have been demanding for a long time.”

Along these lines, he points out that they will put all their “efforts” so that the rehabilitation of these 49 housing blocks is carried out within the established deadlines.

THE WORKS BEGIN NEXT YEAR

The forecast is that the works can begin next year, explains the Minister of Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, who highlighted “the good collaboration and involvement of the different institutions to carry out this intervention that will benefit numerous families in the area who have been waiting for years.

The counselor highlights the impetus that has been given in this term to the insular housing policy.

“This year the Cabildo has increased the aid from the Housing Rehabilitation Plan, to collaborate with the municipalities in works and reforms in the homes of neighbors who are in a situation of social fragility, to guarantee good habitability conditions, accessibility and safety in their homes,” he says.

Chinea also recalls that “this mandate has reactivated the Island Housing Council to address with administrations, agencies and entities everything related to housing at the island level and continue with this line of work.”
