SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Childhood and Family Unit of the Institute of Social and Socio-Sanitary Care of Tenerife (IASS), and the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz, have organized a cycle of activities that, under the title ‘Listen, look and talk’, will take place from this Tuesday to Friday, November 25 to raise awareness, defend and promote the rights of boys and girls and child welfare.

Minister Marián Franquet explains that with this initiative she wants to take advantage of the commemoration on November 20, of the ‘International Day of the Rights of Boys and Girls’, to give them visibility and promote the debate and commitment of society about their fulfillment, directly involving families, the educational community and other social agents linked to their care at the local level.

“November 20 is a day to celebrate the progress made, but also to publicize children’s rights and make people aware of the importance of working day by day for their well-being and development,” said Marián Franquet, who he stressed that “if there is a sector of the population that is especially vulnerable, it is that of children, a fundamental sector on which the present and future of the island depend.”

In this context, the minister explained that the program focuses “on three fundamental lines of work: professionals and the importance of working in coordination between administrations to provide a quality service; families and the need to normalize the situation of boys and girls in their natural environment and above all, the promotion of children’s participation as a fundamental right, listening, looking and talking with them”.

For his part, Mayor Marco González pointed out that with this program they intend to “sensitize society so that they contribute to the support and consolidation of actions and the development of social policies aimed at promoting the well-being of children and the promotion of the rights of boys and girls”.

He also thanked the Cabildo “for the opportunity to host this celebration, as part of its commitment to decentralize activities at the island level.”

The mayor also highlighted the role played by educational centers and schoolchildren in the municipality, which “are essential for the construction of society”, and the participation of toy libraries in the program of activities, especially the municipal toy library El Caracol, responsible for organizing the workshop for the Promotion of Children’s Rights PRODERECH, which consists of an educational game for the promotion of Children’s rights, from a playful perspective.

INSULAR CHILDHOOD FORUM

Among the scheduled events, the ‘II Insular Children’s Forum’ stands out, which will take place on Friday afternoon in Lago Martiánez and in which some 70 boys, girls and adolescents between 10 and 17 years of age will participate, linked to programs, services and resources promoted from the Children’s Unit.

These conferences are an opportunity to collect the proposals, ideas and concerns of minors who will be able to participate in the development of childhood policies.

That same day in the morning, a conference will be held for professionals from different fields related to the protection of the rights of children (health, justice, education) with which it is sought to make good practices visible both in specialized intervention with boys and girls in residential care and in promoting children’s rights in society.

The activities aimed at citizens start this Tuesday with the opening, at the Puerto de la Cruz Town Hall, of the photographic exhibition ‘Children’s Rights’, which reviews the rights and duties of minors, with images that refer to love, integration, family, equality, play, education, participation, entity, protection and health.

Also for the entire population, Plaza de Europa in Puerto de la Cruz will host various activities and workshops on the rights of children on Saturday, November 19, which include recreational educational activities, such as the making of a comic, the celebration of craft classes, gymkhana, collective murals, among others.

Within this agenda of actions, actions aimed at the family have been designed with an online workshop aimed at reflecting on positive parenting and children’s rights, and another face-to-face workshop, which will take place on Thursday afternoon at the Casa de la Juventud in Puerto de la Cruz with which we want to favor the experimentation of educational practices that promote good treatment.
